As a K-12 art teacher, my creative batteries are charged and my preconceived notions are challenged by my students. I'm fairly structured in my lesson delivery because my goal is to make art accessible to all my students; from the highly inspired, to the completely uninspired. I'm always amazed and very proud of what my students create. Here are some examples of their work:

My Gallery Art
My gallery art pieces range in size from very small (several square inches), to fairly large (several square feet). Some of the pieces were done as original art for a specific venue such as for note cards, special occasion prints, or a collectible philatelic society stamp. Other pieces were done because I was inspired to do them. Here are some samples of my gallery art:

My Commercial Art
I've had a long history as a commercial graphic artist. It has encompassed such activities as department store displays and windows; page layout for a medical publisher; text and graphics layout for a packaging manufacturer; corporate identity and brochure design; poster art and design; special events logos and art; newspaper advertising design and layout; publication illustration and cover art; and the list goes on. Here are some examples:
"Alaskan Wild Berries" book cover and one interior illustration example, 1998
"What Real Alaskans Eat" cookbook and one interior illustration example, 2003
Two poster examples for community events, 1994 and 1999

Who Am I?
Welcome to Art 4 Life. The blog name is a description of myself as a life long artist with several different variations on that theme. My major occupations as artist are, as a commercial graphic artist and illustrator; gallery artist; and most recently as a certified K-12 art teacher. I nurture each of those professional venues as you might plant a garden with companion plants that nourish one another. Welcome to my garden.
